Planet Alsatia, Imperial Senate
Probably the largest single dome in the galaxy contained the great hall of the Imperial Senate, this is where the 1000 senators were seated even now. The day was truly of great importance as they were about to choose a new Emperor. Emperor Alexander was present as well as the Curia, who had already made their decision.
Alexander was sitting separate from the members of Curia. He watched them with great care. The Curia always had their own plans and they were undoubtly planning to make this new Emperor a puppet of theirs like had happened some time before. Alexander had managed to stay indipendent, but even he was oppressed by the Curia during the final months of his reign.
Farther away, the speaker of the Curia, Titus Murcius Paulinus glanced at the old Emperor. What had first seemed like a setback, sending Agamemnon after the daemons on Taloria, now seemed to fit perfectly in their plan. While Agamemnon's previous post as a planetary commander on Vindenis would have made him more easily controllable, as his popularity would have faded over time and also it would have prevented him from controlling too large of a quantity of troops. Now, if he would succeed, his popularity would rise yet again, but the new Emperor would be firmly seated the time he got back, so Agamemnon would not be capable of acting unless he'd risk to be declared as an enemy of the state. Should he fail however, the Curia would have nothing to worry about, with their new puppet Emperor installed. Therefore, Agamemnon must fail, one way or the other. If he gets back alive, he wont settle for the position of a planetary commander, Paulinus knew that.
The speaker of the senate opened the session. The declaration of the new Emperor was the first matter at hand. Alexander stood up and walked in front of the Curia.
''I, Emperor Alexander of Alsatia, hereby tender my resignation from the throne as is the Imperial constitution demands. I will step down willingly and leave the throne for the next Emperor.''
''Your resignation is accepted.'' answered Paulinus.
''Accorging to the Imperial constitution, the responsibility of choosing a new Emperor has fallen on the Curia. After careful consideration, we've chosen Senator Manius Olcinius Agricola as the new Emperor of Alsatia. Please step forward.''
The new Emperor rose up and walked to the Curia. Alexander smirked, just as he expected, the man they chose was a docile one, at least compared to himself.
''Will you, Senator Manius Olcinius Agricola abide by the rules of the Imperial Constitution and carry out your duties as the Emperor with the Imperial people as your first and foremost priority?''
''I will.'' answered the Emperor
Murcius stepped forward. ''Hail Agricola, hail the new Emperor!'' was the traditional way of declaring the power was now in the hands of the new Emperor. The senate bursted in cheers as Agricola smiled as brightly as the sun. Alexander knew Agamemnon would return safely from Taloria and when he returned, he'd not be happy.
